FAQ
Can I talk to it like a person?
Yes, with chat. Chat uses a cloud model in this first version: your words and the state of the house go out as text, never pictures or video. If the internet drops, chat pauses and everything else carries on.
Who can see my camera footage?
The adults in your household. Kids’ accounts and a wall screen can’t open camera recordings. Clips and snapshots are kept on the box for 14 days, then deleted, and nothing records all the time. If you turn on cloud sync for clips, they’re end-to-end encrypted: we can’t watch them.
What if someone steals the box?
Its disk is encrypted with a key sealed inside the box, so a disk pulled out can’t be read, and the box itself still asks for a sign-in. A nightly backup kept off the box, on a disk on your home network or in hunhu Cloud, restores onto a new box in an evening.
What about load-shedding?
Put the box, your router and your cameras on backup power and hunhu keeps running through a power cut. We’re choosing the backup power we’ll recommend now; its price is to come.
Will it work with what I already have?
hunhu runs your home through Home Assistant, so it works with the lights, plugs, switches and locks Home Assistant supports. Your phone is the screen; a tablet or any screen you plug in works too.
Is it an alarm system?
No. hunhu is not a certified alarm or armed response. It is also never the only way to open your gate: your remotes and keypads keep working.
